A Shattering Heart

Shattering Heart

There’s a need that is so profound

To simply topple to the ground

Finally alone at long last

My heart is free to shatter too like glass

No one else to watch and no one else to know

Of the tears that I cannot control

But it’s a mess that I myself have made

There is no one else to blame

So may these tears quietly heal

All that I do not wish to feel

All it is that I cannot share

Things I wish nobody else to bear

Then I will quickly dry my eyes

And hope that no one else can see what I keep inside

Nice work Shannon, and so much we do keep inside, worried what others may think. Knowing one’self, propensities and faults is half the battle, where we can arrive at being who we are regardless of anyone else. A nicely penned and evocative work. Cheers!

There comes a time for us all to release hurt, pain and let the tears flow. Holding it in does us no good. I carried much pain for many years and through my poetry was able to set myself free. I pray that your pain will subside and the sun will rise again to give you the strength of joy and peace. Loneliness and pain I do not wish upon any living soul. Peace and blessings I send to you Shannon.

Such a nice thing to say, Vincent. Rest assured that this piece was written a few years ago and that I am not currently in that state of mind. We are in agreement that it should not be wished upon anybody.

A sad but very well expressed piece,of poetry, Shannon. You are really good at portraying your inner feelings in your work..so even by keeping the specific ones hidden you are sharing that they exist and that surely helps.

Thanks, John. I think that some of my best work came from writing about my own feelings as I was feeling them or remembering them as I write. I feel the same way about hearing a good song or when reading someone else’s poetry. Some of the best come from emotional perspectives and earnest thinking.
