Transhumanity – Stepping Through A Closed Door

Transforming the human condition
Technologically
Permanently
Without fear of retribution
Their superlative solution
The futurists goal
A quest for mechanized immortality
Without the machinery
Enhanced physiologies
Mental capacities
A renewed human identity
Abhorrent obscenity
But evolving continuously
Evolutionary, scientifically, methodically
Transhumanity
Individuality
Sacrificed for collectivity
Intellectually
Demonstrating characteristically
Imagination
Interpretation
Definition
A new transcendence
Into the vastness of the unknown
Technologies driving advanced engineering
Machines controlling the steering
Without humanity interfering
Reprogramming cerebral functionality
Without fear of irrationality
Singularities developed simultaneously
Functioning in harmony
Duplicities, multiplicities, periodicities
A versioned evolution towards a new humanity
Yet seemingly without understanding
The complexities of false superiority
Dangerously
Recklessly
Engaging in developing
Welcoming
An unsettling day of reckoning
When the quest for perfectionism
Collides with extremism
Electronic narcissism
Surrealism
No longer humanity
But transhumanity
Leading to our extinction

Author’s Note:

Transhumanism is an intellectual movement that believes that humanity can be transformed by implementing radical and sophisticated technologies to greatly enhance our intellect and physical stature. Some go to the extreme beliefs that humans may someday be able to transform ourselves into different beings with abilities that are far beyond imagination. There are many different theories on how this transformation might be accomplished, but each have one connecting thread; the quest for immortality. Those who are against this type of human engineering point out that by evolving too far, we could lose our human identity and may even become disposable or inferior to these engineered human replacements – we’d be working toward our own extinction.

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

What a scary thought your skillful phrases bring out, Ralph. Yet, these intellectual movement theories are gaining far too much ground IMHO. Would this be an extension of the cloning craze of a few years ago? In a robotic type world human emotions would be lost for sure. Whereas now many believe, as I do, that love is the core of life, a human thing. Great piece of poetry.

I’ve been fascinated by this topic for the last month and I just had to put this together to share it. Frankly it’s quite terrifying when you really break it down – why some people think they can or want to change humanity is beyond me. I guess the quest for immortality will continue to fuel the abhorrent science of genetic engineering or worse. Thanks for the kind words.

A very possible future in many ways Ralph, as technology guides us to possibilities not thought. Digital intelligence transference and no need for flesh and blood is a frightening thought. A wonderful expression and wordplay with much to consider. Great work my friend

This happening in the not too distant future is a scary thought, Ralph. Wonderful use of words in this piece of poetry.

This idea, to me, is so frightening. I hope to never see it, but I fear for my children. The signs of such a progression are held in our very hands, all around us every day. The way you crafted this piece is so appropriate, nearly robotic with your word usage and tone. Well done Ralph.

    Best,
    Mel

Sure does give us a chance to rethink on whether the whole idea of robots is the best decision since that’s where the technology is being developed
