Seeking Connection

Connection…

Perhaps an inclusion,
that would make my day,
seen to be witty or intelligent,
just a nod of acceptance,
a recognition of existence
would help me assimilate
in this human decay.

But all I see is self-involvement,
sharing not so much,
experience sought for gain
and little else,
growing a concept
that is without intention,
without connection.

Is it me,
some quirk of my personality,
that holds people at bay,
or is it just the way it is with everyone,
folks immersed within their own worlds,
rotating around the sun together,
but separate?

I long for connection,
eye to eye, no bullshit,
sharing reality,
not some approximation of fantasy,
but real concerns, questions and thoughts,
that we could agree upon, disagree but understand,
before wisdom is buried as I am.

The same path, the same learning,
each one of us,
but without love for life, for each other,
life is an empty vessel,
and wisdom is like moss to a stone,
forever rolling in the waters,
but never growing under sun.

Oh how I wish we all would connect and share likes / dislikes in a good way, no tippy-toeing around and be honest about what we comment to each other . Connections should be open. Being polite is good, being able to disagree in an amiable and helpful way is glorious. How can anyone learn anything if we don’t say it like it is? When we raise children we know they need to be taught correctly. If we always praise them even when they are wrong they will gain a false sense of self-gratification then be devastated when they grow up and realize they are not perfect. Same’ with writers or any artist – don’t give them a false sense of security and don’t build up their confidence with insincere words. Build up their confidence with honest sincerity and help them learn. We each must share our wisdom or it will just decay.

I like this well penned verse, Tony.

I love the message here, Tony. With all the technology today like the Internet and smart phones that make communicating easier in many ways, it has also become the age of disconnection (physically). People always have their eyes glued to their phone, tablet or computer screen, never making eye contact or even verbal face to face conversation. It is a sad thing to experience every time you go somewhere. I rarely even take my phone out of my pocket and only use it in case of emergency…it irks me.

I agree John, technology has mesmerized people to such an extent there is a definite lack of connection to the natural world. Cheers!

Like John has stated already, the technogical era is to blame, its a gift and a curse. It gives us the ability to communicate and share our work in a very timely fashion, but it also made us turn into hermits even in public, we pitch tents around ourselves and, with tunnel vision, bury our heads into our phones. I would prefer every conversation to be face to face, eye to eye but inevitably it cant always happen like that. Ioved this one especially Tony. The portrayal of humanity as empty shells helplessly spinning around the sun. Great work Tony.
