Terpsichorean Butterfly

Your simple pose, is breathtakingly explicit
You shan’t fear worlds beyond the uncharted curtain.
Trust in your legs and your body’s coefficients,
And applause, my graceful dove, is yours, I’m certain

When the first chair cellist, summons her bow and string,
And the world unveils a pantomime for the flesh
You catch those butterflies beneath your chest, and sing
With your emotions like a Dreamcatcher, enmeshed.

Your petticoat melts to you, taut against your skin
Your tegument shimmers with glitters and oils
As you float effortless, like a butterfly’s wing,
The benefits will show from your arduous toils.

The crowd will be enraptured, by your lithe figure
How your body moves like water through the ocean
Your soul cascades and your beauty causes shivers,
The Terpsichore you gambol to, brings emotion.

Tremulous and petite like hung sycamore leaf,
you glide inches above the proscenium stage.
The backdrop hued with cherry pleats and plantar grief,
Your tip toes become the feet of a tiger’s rage.

And swift as tigers you partake that oaken stage
A host of angels tenanting the theatre seats
Amid the playhouse arch a spotlight roars, engaged,
your heart in union with orchestral notes and beats

You dance with strokes of lightning, limpid mid the clouds
Airy and swift, with contrast strength, you conquer shade.
Shed your coy flesh, and let your heart throb for the crowd
Intrepid petite, it is time for you to play.

Beautiful Paul, and so vividly created. Not only capturing the beauty of a dancer’s grace, but also her undeniable strength. You took me back to the stage, a place a rarely revisit. A graceful and exceptional piece. Thank you for taking me there.

    Best,
    Mel
