Sunsets
Years they flow.
like rivers never ending
and sunsets come and go.
Some of them seen,
through a veil of tears,
some looked upon –
with brilliant smiles.
Through life I’ve walked,
so many miles,
there have been many smiles
and mellow evenings,
sung in –
as the sun slowly sank beyond the horizon.
I often wonder,
how many I have seen –
thinking back over the years.
My first sunset,
at the age of three,
was a large orange ball –
I wanted to play with.
Romantic sunsets,
when the stars of teen years,
still shone in my eyes
and there were many sighs,
over unrequited love,
with a heart so very full.
Now as time has flown,
my sunsets have mellowed
and they’re for reflecting
upon memories –
that sparkle and shine.
Sunsets when I first knew,
you were mine
and together our love –
was so sublime
Looking back over the years,
some new memories to share –
with each new sunset.
As another day drifts by,
just before the purple haze of twilight,
colors the sky,
your hand so warm
and sure in mine,
as the last rays of the sun –
disappear from sight.
The darkness,
like large, black bat wings,
cover the entire sky,
you give your kiss to me
and whisper of your love.
Something to remember,
something to treasure –
with each new orangey glow.
