Those Who Break

Those Who Break
Those Who Break

How we bend to meet life’s affronts,
to bare the pain of mistakes and recompense
from the choices we make,
and all is ours to accept, ineptitude
that requires our learning,
regardless of the blood-letting we endure.

Some bend like palms in a storm,
integrity held, weathered in stoic resolve,
other snap like twigs underfoot,
life too harsh for reality’s touch;
and so what becomes of them, those
too weak to endure the storms?

They are the pretenders,
the holders of denial, the deluded
crafters of alternate lives,
imagined in response to failure,
construed to protect the lie,
the ineptitude in which they hide.

For they know deep inside,
they are the fallen,
yet in their guise they are the triumphant,
the winners in life, the flagrant upper elite,
the truth reversed to meet their deluded demands,
as life is cruel to them, and no fault of there s, a victim.

Worse, they can justify any act in self-preservation,
to protect the lie in malicious attacks,
to uphold their belief in righteous acts,
and still in woeful tears play the victim,
life so malevolent, so pointedly incriminating,
they are so misunderstood.

Such harm they cause,
for self is all there is, the lie their clothing,
and they absolve themselves from what they do,
justified in response to those who know the truth,
while they plan and hurt for their sake,
to at least feel the power, of someone in control.

Life does not have to be so harsh – I often wonder why some make it so difficult for others while maintaining a self-righteous belief. Great work, Tony.

Much appreciated Phyllis, yes so many people create so much disharmony in their deluded beliefs. Glad you related. Cheers!

So true. We all know too many of those who “snap like twigs” as you put it. So sad, really, they do make life difficult not only for themselves, but for those around them. Very well said, Tony.
