I’ve Got Those Darn Tired, Confounded, So Sick of Movin’ Blues

Oh how I loved the life I was livin’,

Away from the city’s trouble and strife.

On my little 40 acre bush block of Heaven,

But living that life was hard for my wife.

We sold up our property, old cars and all,

Bought us a house in a nearby rural town.

At least as towns go this one is quite small,

For beef and its meatworks it once was renowned.

I’ve got those darn tired, confounded, so sick of movin’ blues.

The move is ongoing,

We’ve much more than we thought.

We have to stop hoarding

The lesson we’ve been taught.

A plush pen for the chickens

We’ve already built,

A flash cat cage as well,

To allay any guilt.

I’ve got those darn tired, confounded, so sick of movin’ blues.

The bus wouldn’t fit

Inside our front gate,

But I forced it in

Realising too late.

The gate post was flattened,

And a panel of fence,

Busby’s side is all dented

which will cost a few cents.

I’ve got those darn tired, confounded, so sick of movin’ blues.

The move has its positives,

All amenities are close.

We’ll use much less fuel,

And get daily post.

But I’m so tired of moving,

My energy’s spent.

A week of good rest

Would be Heaven sent.

I’ve got those darn tired, confounded, so sick of movin’ blues.

I miss writing daily

But I’m hard pressed for time.

It’s lucky I managed

To turn out this rhyme.

We’re taking a break

To try and revive,

To Getaways Resort,

A good six-hour drive.

Four days away

In the Luv Shack at large,

Should help us revive

And our batteries recharge.

I’ve got those darn tired, confounded, so sick of movin’ blues.

Now for Some Light Relief

Once upon a time, there was a boy who wanted to be a fireman or an astronaut.

He grew up to be an accountant.

Go figure!

∝ ‡ ∝ ‡ ∝ ‡ ∝ ‡ ∝ ‡ ∝ ‡

Jesse was a budding artist. He drew a gun but was too slow.

He was shot down before he could draw the trigger.

Longtime poet but not in the traditional technical sense. I enjoy rhyme but like to experiment and dabble in many different forms and maybe even make up some of my own. There is always a message or lesson I want to promote through my writing, for that reason, my poetry generally shies away from the abstract and obscure. Now I find myself branching out and experimenting with short fiction, and thoroughly enjoying this, especially flash fiction. I have been fortunate to have two poems made into songs and recorded. The first "On the Road to Kingdom Come" by Al Wordlaw, and the second, "If I Could Write a Love Poem" by award-winning Israeli/British singer Tally Koren. My services increasingly in demand as a freelance writer and I have ghost-written the text for a number of children's books and educational tutorials. It has taken me many years of searching and restlessness to realise that my life's passion is to write. It saddens me that I wasted so many years not devoting to that, but thinking positively, the experiences gained over those years are now wonderful material for my stories and poems. I want to try to bring a new focus on poetry and try to make it appealing to a new generation of young people and those who thought they never liked or understood it before.

Hope you and Kathy find peace and get settled soon, John. Great poem and I love the light funny stuff at the end. Poor ol’ Busby – may the dents be minor and fixed bright as new.

Thank you for reading this Phyllis and for your kind sentiments. Moving has sure been a trial, and expensive. I can’t wait to be able to just sit and relax. I’m not sure what’s happening with busby. We may sell him.

Hey, Rasma. When the move is all over I will sit back and laugh about it.. I hope. Glad you found it amusing though.

Oh John, I hate moving too, and realizing all the stuff we horde and have to deal with is, well, its burdensome. Lol. I wish you well in your new abode, and count your blessings for all you share, and get back to some writing, we’ve missed you in here.

Yes, Tony, I agree. Moving is certainly not on my list of favourite pastimes. It should be over soon thank God. I have been trying to find time to write as much as I can both here and HubPages but it hasn’t been as much as I’d like. My output should increase soon. Thanks for caring.

Ha, you are so funny John, and you certainly did bust out rhyme. It’s wonderful to make light of moving, so much work, especially when we have been settled for a good amount of time. It always make you open your eyes to how much we manage to collect over the years, simplifying is an art, in and of itself. Wishing you much reprieve, and best wishes to a new home, for you and your wife, once settled. Such a fun piece!

    Best,
    Mel 🙂

Thanks for the well wishes, Mel. Glad you saw the fun in this as well. You are right that simplification is an art and one I need to learn. All the best to you.

Cool song lyrics. I know all too well about moving. When I lived in an apartment complex, my friend Tim lived in the same complex. He moved 4 times… in the same complex, and I helped. I’d like to consider myself a professional mover at this point. Moving is chaos, plain and simple. Sooner or later the dust settles and normality comes back into play. Excellent rhyming my friend. ~Paul

You said it Paul..”Moving is chaos” and I hope to never have to move again. Thanks for your encouragement..and, yes, the dust will eventually settle.

I enjoyed your story of moving, so well defined for us all, and your light hearted stuff was very cute!

It sounds like you’ve got the moving house blues, I can associate with that my friend. I’ve moved far too many times in my life, but now thankful to have unloaded and downsized to a condo. I would have preferred to live outside the city, yet city life and movement gives me a lot of fodder to work with. It sounds like the aches and pains of moving has gotten you down, cheer up and enjoy your love nest away visit break. I’m sure you will need it, those muscles we had when we were much younger get sore faster now. I loved your rhyme and that you even found that pittance of time to pen. I had to come read this, as well the cartoon sketch helped draw me in, a real eye catcher.

The move is finally over, Vincent, and although there are a few renovations needed, at least everything is moved and we have been able to relax a bit. Been ill with the flu for a few weeks but finally over that now. Glad the cartoon image attracted you yo this. Cheers.

Moving is a humongous task that can cause total exhaustion. Hope the resort stay helped you and your wife to relax and rejuvenate. Loved the rhyme.
