Da Vinci’s Pencil

Universal genius
Gifted thinker
Cartographer…
With an unquenchable thirst
For knowledge…
And it’s application
Scientifically merging
Art and natural philosophy
Observationally…
Rather than a dependency
On theory or experimentation
His flair for mechanization
Invention…
Dreams of taking flight
Spans of connectivity
Engineering…
Constructing weaponry
Note and drawings
Written with a curious pencil
Perhaps in secrecy,
Mirrored in imagery
Left hand in control…
Endlessly developing educationally
Architecture, astronomy
Anatomy and botany
Paleontology
Yet it’s understood definitively
A true master
Prolific painter…
With his brush
Revealing expressive emotions
Without limitations
As the shadowy mystery we see,
The Laughing One
With her subtle smile
Divinity on canvas
Continues still today
His sketchbook
Pencil recording everything
Caricatures captured
Meticulously…
Enshrined in infamy
Through unorthodoxy
Leonardo da Vinci

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

Yes what a genius of a man. I have seen up close much of his work and it leaves your breathless, to imagine how he achieved what he did. A fitting ode to an extraordinary man. Well done Ralph.

I always found that his invention side was the most fascinating. So many great things came from his intuitive mind. He paved the way for modern flight creating the flying machine. He invented scuba gear, the revolving bridge, so many contributions to society, and his artwork speaks for itself. Well written, Ralph.
