Between the Darkness and the Dawn

Between the Darkness and the Dawn

the darkness and the dawn

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn,

thoughts race like startled deer,

surprised by the unknown.

So much that comes to mind,

as purple streaks,

like spilled wine,

quickly covers a tablecloth,

as darkness covers the sky,

quickly closing the door,

upon the day.

While above the stars are winking

and the moon is smiling from afar,

I seek that star,

the one where my inspiration lies.

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn,

so many memories come crashing in,

like the loudest of crescendos,

left echoing from a piano concerto.

They leave their mark,

as my fingers,

ever faster fly across the keyboard,

never knowing when to stop,

never knowing what will come out –

just during the earliest hours.

When midnight has come and gone,

things that go bump in the night,

send me on adventures –

perhaps riding across the night sky,

along with the clouds that fly by.

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn,

so much to explore,

when the stress of day has gone

and the mind has time to relax.

Then so many things come to mind

and produce pictures and many smiles.

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn,

those magical horses come riding in,

but they’ll all fade away,

leaving streaks across the brightening sky,

once the morning sun –

comes peaking over the horizon.

I have often seen,

dark shadows of spirits from the past,

dancing over the night sky,

leaving a trail of mystery.

They leave so much inspiration behind,

I can hear the music,

of so many yesterdays.

Then with teary eyes,

I greet that morning sun,

but I’ll be there to welcome those shadows,

once again when the day has ended

and the fantasy and fun begins –

somewhere between the darkness and the dawn.

“When the fantasy and fun begins” – I love that time when the imagination is free and soaring. You have vivid imagery in this verse, Rasma, and it is a joy to read. I really like the line “I can hear the music, of so many yesterdays.”, that is beautiful. Great work, Lady Poet.

Very nicely penned Rasma, of that time where imagination takes hold and delivers us to may thought, free from the world of limits. Lovely, I enjoyed it.

The night time is where my imagination usually engages with my pen. I find the unknown to be fascinating. It is as you said, stress fades into the backdrop, and relaxation takes center stage, then the mind roams free of obstructions. Great piece. ~Paul

I guess we’re all a bit guilty of being enchanted by the darkness and how it invigorates our imaginations. I really like how you’ve detailed the “slipping away” of the night while simultaneously reminding the reader “to not worry, it will be back again tonight.”
