Words to Reach the Heart

Words to Reach the Heart
Words to Reach the Heart

Words reach the heart,
as fast as a blade,
as completely as a kiss,
and their embrace does yield so much,
beyond their simple meanings
as they impart their purpose,
their intended infusion.

And what guile
effects more than a poet’s art,
words to change,
to inspire and warm the heart,
so filled with beauty
their form is trans-formative,
a passion-filled opening.

We may bleed, may stand tall,
we may be enlivened, restored,
by the poet’s whim,
the words that make a heart sing,
and under the spell,
the world just slips away,
beauty’s embrace complete.

Those words can trouble us,
make us think, reconsider,
take a new perspective,
and remember ideals lost,
amid the struggle at life’s cost,
if only we are open to the art,
the tender loving hand from the poet’s heart.

Mind to mind, soul to soul,
words like batons passed along,
given flight in a world of struggle,
healing words to soothe like a mother,
a furrowed brow in caring relief,
words as soothing as a stream,
the serene trickling of flow.

Words are powerful, yet they can rest gently on the heart and soul, or stir up fiery passions. Words from “the tender loving hand from the poet’s heart.” remain in hearts forever. Beautiful verse, Tony.
