Those Who Live in a Dark Desert of Disdain

Those Who Live in a Dark Desert of Disdain
Those Who Live in a Dark Desert of Disdain

Disdain for life…

Penance due, not life ensues,
when neglectful souls wreak havoc,
they live not for joy or even gain,
too negative in their outpouring;
just because they can create
vile circumstance and then berate the victim,
for a treasured moment of evil gleaned
to force a hand or so it seems,
in a play of pointless goals.

Why do people find solace in egregious acts,
perpetrated just to harm,
when there is so much more to gain
in understanding, taking the high road
of standing side by side, not to disarm;
what piece is missing, to want such hurt,
that it can make you feel better,
perhaps less hurt yourself,
but so wrong it is to blindly play out?

What good is life if a platform for harm,
what purpose can justify wrong,
a deliberate attempt at destruction and pain,
a living breath of a dark disdain,
can never heal a mind deranged
and a soul so bereft of being whole;
and who can look in a mirror,
knowing the pain so freely given,
who can grasp a self so maligned,
by decisions and actions driven?

    It seems to take a miracle to change one from such a life of causing harm and hurt to one who has found inner peace and learns that love is the core of life. Very well penned verse, Tony. Like you, I wonder how they can look in a mirror and not grasp the pain they caused.
