Thoughts about new year

As a new year begins

As another new year begins

spreading before us its pristine, blank pages,

that await to be inscribed with fresh chapters

and shaded in colors never before seen,

vibrant hues of hope dissipate all around

alongside the auspicious sparkle of fireworks,

as we stand once again at the gateway of brighter tomorrows

trying to recapture our rights to believe in dreams.

Yet, how caught up are we in our erroneous ways

strangely content in navigating our lives,

to the professed safety of harbours preset by society

sacrificing our individualities,

as we keep on seeking greener pastures of happiness

our success gauged in winning futile races to smell plastic roses.

How hollow are our resolutions without determination

which get abandoned half way or doomed to fade in time,

as we vainly attempt to justify our choices and actions

by excuses molded to suit convenience,

when lies repeated most often morphs as our new truths

and we unwittingly tag along their burden,

our ideals woven solely from the voices

that first reach our ears in this pandemonium.

Still, there is a dwindling beacon of hope

feeding on the goodness remaining in our hearts,

that refuses to be snuffed out even at this dark hour

and begs us to remove the clogs of our ego,

to let the cascades of love and truth drench the virgin soil

of our minds to nurture our true potential,

as we stop waiting for someone else to take that daunting first step

in our journeys of life seeking fulfilment.

Better grab the bull by the horns and go. I love your take for the new year. Stop following along with life. Venture, risk, chance yourself and maybe you may find a different incarnation altogether, something or someone you may love even more than your present self. We do need to stop being content with just scrapping by, and winning participation trophies. That’s not how I was brought up. Even in the beauty of life itself I strive to be the best at understanding it. Great piece really got me thinking my friend. Thank you for sharing.~Paul

Beautifully ascribed, young poetess. With the feet of man set in stone, the will flies everywhere to accomplish that which is desired. Positive for those who possess possitivity, and for those who read and think positively. Very well written, my dear friend, from both sides of the board!
