Reflecting on the Year Gone By
Just peering out in the darkness,
beyond the window,
where the stars are at play –
with the moon above.
Where they twinkle and shine,
bringing memories of days divine,
Days reflecting sparkling past years,
in the treasure chest stored in my heart,
knowing that with these memories,
I’ll never part.
Just a candle,
flame flickering ,
like a film projector throwing,
shadows upon the wall.
Waiting for my loved ones to call,
I can hear voices whispering,
in my ear.
Those loving voices,
that once were so dear.
Just a bottle of wine,
so sweet and mellow,
poured into a glass –
by candlelight yellow.
Just the darkness, candlelight and wine,
reflecting on days that have gone by.
Things left unsaid, undone and with a why?
The taste of the wine so very sublime,
mingles with tears so bittersweet.
Somewhere melodies play in my mind,
songs from another time,
songs that lovingly rhyme,
with words that remind me,
of days that have gone by.
Looking forward to a sterling New Year,
one to leave behind not a single tear.
Where memories will continue to shine brightly,
where new memories will be made
and longed for goals achieved.
As the New Year comes sailing in,
we’ll lift up our glasses,
holding them up,
as the champagne beneath the light,
like diamonds sparkles
and we sing –
Auld Lange Syne,
to you, to me, to friends and loved ones –
Happy 2017!

A lovely sentimental journey in worlds, in remembrance of those passed and the love that still lingers. Nicely penned and evocative Rasma. And wishing you are your loved ones a healthy and happy 2017. Take care.

A glass raised for you Rasma in the reflection that it shines. Great piece of writing to bring us into the new year, remembering all that has passed in 2016. Wishing a lovely 2017 to all here. ~Paul
