Accepting Happiness and Not Seeking It Out

Accepting Happiness and Not Seeking It Out
Accepting Happiness and Not Seeking It Out

Happiness is the greatest illusion of all,
as we forge paths to that end,
yet find in every pursuit, nothing seems to last,
and so we keep pursuing
in the hope we will find the one thing
that will truly make us happy in life.

Yet each success, each acquisition, each love
leads us to happiness, but only temporarily,
for neither circumstance nor possession,
nor the love of our lives will make us happy
without us deciding to be happy,
regardless of anything else.

Happiness is purely a decision,
and in that, a way of life, a paradigm
that does not rely on anything other than its acceptance,
and so all our pursuits are pointless,
all our wealth, our accumulating possessions irrelevant,
for no-one can make us happy but ourselves.

It is no secret, no trick or epiphany, just a fact,
and in order to achieve this goal,
one must understand that seeking out happiness
is not the answer, not a lasting one,
and in this physical plane we must appreciate whatever we have,
no matter how small or large,
for betterment cannot ensue without that.

Accepting happiness is a lightness of heart,
an openness to circumstance and an acceptance of life’s challenges,
and within that understanding
we choose to be happy, and deal with challenges positively,
gaining a better perspective of life’s movement
and a demeanor that assures survival.

Glad you appreciated it Kurt, and so many people spend their lives pursuing what will make them happy only to find nothing does, other than just deciding to. Cheers!
