Wondering in the Cold

How cold and cruel it seemed,

snow-snow-004

Looked out upon a landscape,

that was filled with ice and snow.

Where the night comes riding in,

and the stars in a frozen sky,

begin to glow.

How cold and cruel it seemed,

the world had become.

No more color,

like a black and white photo,

the world looked so odd.

Nowhere was there warmth,

no sun rays shining down.

Just gray and chill wind,

gray clouds covering the sky.

To complete the show,

black crows flew by,

seeking food and shelter,

while gulls warned of a winter storm.

The river once flowing gently,

now rushes by with turbulent waters,

soon to be frozen in winter splendor.

I wondered where I could find,

that special glow,

that would warm my heart.

I already knew,

it would be in your embrace –

far from the winter chill.

Warmth from your kisses,

as the north wind howled.

Bare branches,

tapping against the window pane.

Snowflakes swirling about,

as the temperatures keep going down.

Together we can share,

warm hands and warm hearts.

Smiles as warm as the summer sun,

remembering strolls along the beach,

as waves lapped at our feet.

Picnics in flowery meadows,

even as the sun –

to autumn turned.

Then suddenly in one cloudy swirl,

everything turned about,

gone were the carefree days,

boots upon bare feet now.

It all happens so suddenly,

we go from bonfires,

to crackling fireplaces,

as the chill of the wind,

sends us inside.

Seasons swirl about us,

so very fast

and it seems that summers,

pass by us like freight trains,

steaming by through the night.

So hold me now

and hold me fast.

Let’s make these winter moments last.

Never let me go,

keep the love light burning,

until the spring,

comes creeping,

over the window sill.
