Seems Like Yesterday

ce-33

Seems like yesterday – Good or bad, we all have memories as we travel this road we call life. Sometimes those memories almost seem like yesterday, even though you may have lived a life in between then and now. As we grow older if we are lucky we fall in love. Sometimes fate takes a hand and we fall out of love. As we all know affairs of the heart are never fair and sometimes we shoot ourselves in the foot. As we grow accustomed to each other as a couple most people start to take the other person and their loving relationship for granted. It happens slowly and most of the time we are unaware that it is happening and never see the end coming until you are face to face with it. As the relationship starts to crumble and you or your lover decide to walk away – the good times can seem just like yesterday. This poem below is something I wrote some time ago. It is a lesson I learned the hard way.

“Seems Like Yesterday”

So much time has passed, being cast away,
In my memories, it seems like yesterday.

You were the one I knew it from the start,
How with one look, your smile stole my heart.

Our life began and we walked hand in hand,
Music, love the song played in our inner band.

Happy was I that we had a life to share,
Not knowing our future and I should beware.

Life got busy and threw more than a few curves,
Our love faltered with not enough attention it deserved.

Took it for granted didn’t take the time to nurture it so,
Affairs of the heart are difficult, I just didn’t know.

As time marched on, I was wrong and let it fade away,
Memories, what should have been seems like yesterday.

So much love lost to lack of understanding at the time. And yes, it all holds on in memory as if yesterday, the loves that transformed our loves in more ways than one. Nicely expressed.

Very well phrased verse, Kurt. I can feel the emotion and heartfelt courage to say “I just didn’t know.” Failed loves leave that question within us for a long time: “What if I had …” , I know this from personal experience. I learned the hard way in matters of love, but have finally accepted the fact that today I am where I am supposed to be. Your poem is deserving of a big hug! Great work.
