What We Won’t See

What We Won't See
What We Won’t See…in love

Won’t see, won’t admit, until its too late

We see what we will, what we want to,
as all else is hidden
for the grief it could create,
and so we live in denial
of that which we know will hurt,
if ever to reach the light of day.

Yet life abhors truths hidden,
and delusions ours to hold, by choice,
but in time those truths seek light and resolution,
for all our fears, the pain and decay,
that will surely follow us in change,
truths that in knowing can rearrange.

In love we know what we want to,
and in reverence hold our perceived ideals,
yet what we don’t see can in truth repeal
those notions founded in love and denial,
and when a soul finally claims its state,
the reality is a shock, that love now so distant in knowing.

We may all change, often in subtle ways,
acceptance and growth is invited, within love’s arms,
yet when truth is denied and suddenly reveals,
the heart may be crushed, bloodied and tied,
and the revelations of who we once loved,
may find other paths without us.

Love is often a veil, a blurred reality of what is,
and even with many years of living,
it can remain undetected, faults and thoughts unnoticed,
until one day the truth proclaims,
as our paradigm turns fatal,
truth such an affront to wishful thinking.

How I suffered from denial,
glazed over a harsh reality for peace,
and in the end, I broke my heart,
for ever believing what my intellect warned me
was all a lie, and love would heal the disrepair,
yet I saw the truth, and disappointment still, singes my heart.

Love surely is mysterious, is it not? Love can linger for so long and sometimes we find it is time to let it go in peace. Yet, an old love never really dies, it just goes to a quieter place. Very deep thoughts on love, Tony, and well rendered.
