Relationship Squabbles
Relationship Squabbles
Molly just stared at him, not believing what he had just said to her. “Look, Molly, you need to take the time, once in awhile at least, to use your brain! I can’t always do things for you!”
After a few seconds of numbing shock, Molly flung a few choice names at him then stomped into the kitchen. “I need more coffee. Strong coffee! I can’t take any relationship squabbles right now. It looks like you are just going to be in a bad mood all night. I have a deadline to meet and need to finish my work, so just keep your rude thoughts to yourself.” She heard him sigh then chuckle. “You also have a nasty temper, Molly,” he whispered. “I heard that, Ace! Now shut up!”
When the water was hot she made her instant coffee stronger than usual, added some cream, on second thought some kahlua also, then went back to the table. “I can smell the kahlua! Not good, Molly. Strong coffee and kahlua this late at night? Not good at all.”
“Look, I told you I have a deadline, important work, gotta get it done before morning and I do NOT need any sarcasm or criticism from you! In fact you just need to sit there and shut up so I can concentrate!”
For quite awhile the tapping of keys was the only sound in the room and just as she was calming down a little, he said, “How long we been together, Molly?” She missed a key and spelled the next word wrong.
“Too long, Ace. Much too long!” He was quiet for awhile longer. She was almost finished when he started again. “Is this relationship ending, Molly?” She ignored him and finished her report. “There! Done!” She hit the print button and sat back to finish her coffee.
“You know what, Ace? I think it is over for us. I just cannot go on like this, it’s too stressful. After I send this report off in the morning I am going to pack you up, take you back to the shop and trade you in on a new computer. End of story, dear heart! Now I am off to bed.”
Just as she was dozing off she heard that sarcastic voice again, “You forgot to logoff, Molly!”

Nice idea Phyllis and I must admit I’ve had that relationship too, but thankfully my new computer doesn’t talk back. lol Great work
Thank you Tony. I often had those conversations with my old computer. LOL My new computer is a gem. Glad you like this. Take care.
Ah yes, the relationship between person and PC or laptop. I have a favorite now his name is Fred. Seriously I just had one too many times where I would lose my cool or get really anxious because the darn PC wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do. Now I don’t stress it and we get along just fine. So your story made me smile.
Thanks Rasma. Glad it brought you a smile. Yes, computers can be quite aggravating at times.
I never guessed that the conversation was going on with a computer! Enjoyed reading. I have had similar situations in the past but now I have a good laptop.
Glad you enjoyed it, Nithya. It was just one of those ideas that popped into my mind when I was having computer problems. I have a good laptop now, too. Thanks for reading and commenting, I appreciate it.
This was a well-written story with a surprise ending, Phyllis. I loved it.
Oh my gosh! I forgot all about that one. Thanks, John. So glad you loved it. I wrote it one night when my old computer was being a pain.
