A Patch-Work Quilt of Learning

A Patch-Work Quilt of Learning
A Patch-Work Quilt of Learning

Who will sit with me upon the knoll,
beside my abridged and placated soul,
somewhat worn but at least still whole,
as age abides its beating heart.

From here I see the ragged trails,
the pitfall stoops and blades impaled,
and in all that pain, wind in my sails,
to carry me to my present.

So who will speak of frosted clouds,
secrets held now spoke out loud,
and sharing gifts from beneath that shroud,
that held us from ourselves?

Beside me to admit the wrongs,
forgive and bless those past sweet songs,
that held out hearts and kept us strong,
when hope was hard to find.

And here upon this knoll, this high,
where looking back a somber sigh,
to know ahead is less than mine,
as relished as in my youth.

Yet life still breathes within this drum,
so filled of thoughts and battles won,
with fights to fight and races to run,
before my time does end.

So who will sit beside me still,
know what’s happened and what could happen still,
and hold this hand of forgiveness till,
they site this name for renewal?

Upon this knoll the view is whole,
horizon’s glimmered and stories told,
and wisdom gleaned from pain and cold,
the harshness of my travail.

But the heart is all that matters now,
the loves so meant and others sour,
and in lament, I wish my power
was as wise as I used to think.

For in age upon our knoll in view,
we see so much more than we used to,
and regret so many of our ignorant pursuits,
our lives a patch work quilt of learning.

Oh! This is so lovely Tony. I would love to sit upon that knoll and look back over time to see how, what and where I learned. That patchwork quilt is so peaceful and pretty. It is a great inspiration and you did so well with it. Great work.
