Music Moves to Open a Soul

Music moves, to touch the soul…

When Music Moves to Open a Soul

‘Tis the music that moves

to open a soul…

Vibrations, stirring the dance

into love

into loss

into found romance.

The willingness, to let it in

to begin

to feel the language of spirit

curled within.

‘Tis there, beneath the bow…

soft against strings

humming

from the belly, of sorrow’s bone.

Crescendo’s ache…

the pique of an exquisite note

knowing…

the very moment, to let it go.

O lyrics that creep

into the swallow of my throat…

be still, for the understanding

rings in tongueless tones.

‘Tis the music that moves…

to open a soul.

I have always enjoyed writing as a creative and healing outlet. Although I am not a formally trained poet, I have found a natural inclination to explore its remarkable power and beauty. I gravitate towards rhyming verse, free of any constraints, and strive to create an experience through sound, flow, and imagery. I am a writer at Allpoetry.com. and a proud Mother of two beautiful boys. Thank you for visiting.

I love this piece, Mel. It is so well penned and I really relate. I played string instruments in the days when I was in a folk group. I was so shy in stage, but having my strings close to me gave me courage, because they vibrated in my soul, especially my autoharp which I held close to my heart. I love music and it is so clear that you do also. Beautiful.

I am hard of hearing and have been all my life, it is a hidden handicap. In some ways it has been a blessing. I never could learn to play any type of instrument because of it, but what it did was put me in touch with my feelings for others and myself. my other senses became more in tuned with all that surrounds me, people and nature. I hear music, but I feel it more. Loved this piece, I felt it inside.

I could feel the music through the poem and inside of me as I read it. So, so evocative! It’s so strange – I’m reading the book An Equal Music right now – a love story about a violinist. Serendipity? I guess!

    Hi Mel,

Hope all is well with you. When going over older posts I saw this one and just had to read it again. I love to listen to soft music, usually classic or meditative. My son is a musician, writes his own music, and he sends me CDs of his new songs. You are so right – music does move the soul.

    Take care.
