Music Moves to Open a Soul
Music moves, to touch the soul…
‘Tis the music that moves
to open a soul…
Vibrations, stirring the dance
into love
into loss
into found romance.
The willingness, to let it in
to begin
to feel the language of spirit
curled within.
‘Tis there, beneath the bow…
soft against strings
humming
from the belly, of sorrow’s bone.
Crescendo’s ache…
the pique of an exquisite note
knowing…
the very moment, to let it go.
O lyrics that creep
into the swallow of my throat…
be still, for the understanding
rings in tongueless tones.
‘Tis the music that moves…
to open a soul.

So true and beautifully emoted with some really lovely phrasing Mel, and imagery to bring us to your expression with warmth of heart. Love work my friend.
Thank you Tony, I appreciate it. You are a good friend.

I love this piece, Mel. It is so well penned and I really relate. I played string instruments in the days when I was in a folk group. I was so shy in stage, but having my strings close to me gave me courage, because they vibrated in my soul, especially my autoharp which I held close to my heart. I love music and it is so clear that you do also. Beautiful.
Thank you Phyllis, that’s wonderful that you are a musician. Glad that you appreciated this.

I am hard of hearing and have been all my life, it is a hidden handicap. In some ways it has been a blessing. I never could learn to play any type of instrument because of it, but what it did was put me in touch with my feelings for others and myself. my other senses became more in tuned with all that surrounds me, people and nature. I hear music, but I feel it more. Loved this piece, I felt it inside.
I can not thank you enough for comment, it means a great deal to me that you related and shared your thoughts on this piece. Thanks so much Kurt. 🙂

Beautifully written, Mel. Where would the world be without music? Loved it.
Thank you John, it seems one common language that most of us can identify with. Glad you enjoyed it.

I could feel the music through the poem and inside of me as I read it. So, so evocative! It’s so strange – I’m reading the book An Equal Music right now – a love story about a violinist. Serendipity? I guess!
Thank you Shalini, I love serendipity and kismet. I appreciate your mentioning the book, after reading the synopsis, I would like to read it myself. Glad you connected here.

Wonderful piece, Mel. Out of it all, this lines sticks out to me – :to feel the language of spirit.” Music truly is a language and can be understood by all. Thanks.
Thank you kindly Bill, indeed it is. Sorry I missed this lovely comment, glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Very nice , I do believe that music and my love for it has actually saved my life before ! Well, maybe not saved , but surely it brightens my days !
Thank you Ed, I appreciate your comment very much. Music can be very healing, so glad that you related.

Hi Mel,
Hope all is well with you. When going over older posts I saw this one and just had to read it again. I love to listen to soft music, usually classic or meditative. My son is a musician, writes his own music, and he sends me CDs of his new songs. You are so right – music does move the soul.
Take care.
