The Harvest

Harvest…the enrichment of labor’s reward

The Harvest
The Harvest…reward for labor

My harvest done,
till next season begs my tending,
and this sigh is sweet,
filled of sweat and ache and tears,
just to see it concluded;
yet my heart yearns for those seeds
planted to grace the sun,
peeping green from soil parched,
leaves of hope and battles won.

What grows tears avail,
for life does not afford a stillness marked,
rather labour our focus of movement,
and worth the answer to our striving,
the soil enriched by driving our will
and giving wholly of ourselves;
this is the way of life,
when harvests green attest
our labours reward invested.

Cycles come and go,
and I for one see life in terms of growth,
so afferent the feel of nurture,
to watch that miracle come,
that sprouting life the sum of all our hopes;
and sustenance rewards our labour,
our blood and flesh marked in name of earth,
that connection of life,
beyond the strife of struggle, in nature’s grace.
