Lingering… you haunt my dreams

Lingering…never forgotten

Still you haunt my dreams,
youth our tender exploration,
moments forever invested within time,
linger like that first soft kiss,
that first exquisite bed of rose petals,
after which real life beckoned.

Yet innocence never died,
as minds play with life’s sweet elixir,
hardly knowing
the hurt and pain that would follow,
as that stream of life divided us,
tore us from bliss to reality.

And still your face in youth remains,
never overshadowed by your aged pain and passing,
forever to exist within this heart,
so young and beautiful, giving,
and sweet as summer jasmine
in warm repose.

Forty years has faded into past,
yet here you are in my mind, vibrant, engaging,
and your voice as if you just spoke,
resounds in my memory, and I
sadly lost from you and your life,
but never forgotten.
