I’ve Always Had a Fantasy
I’ve always had a fantasy …
I’ve always had a fantasy,
of waltzing across Texas.
Past moseying cowboys
and galloping horses.
I’ve always had a fantasy,
of waltzing across Texas.
To discover if the eyes of Texas,
are really upon me.
Through county fairs, chili cook offs
and old fashioned Texas barbecues.
To meet that yellow rose they all sing about,
waltzing past great oil fields and ranches –
where long horn cattle graze
and wild mustangs racing across the plains.
I’ve always had a fantasy,
of waltzing through Texas.
Where oil barons strut about
in ten gallon hats.
Where they’re dancing the two step
and riding mechanical bulls.
To see if the stars are bigger and brighter –
there than anywhere else.
Coming to the mighty Rio Grande –
where by open fires,
cowboys may strum their guitars and sing songs,
while horses quietly neigh by.
I’ve always had a fan tasy,
of waltzing across Texas
and for once in my life,
see the Gulf of Mexico –
where bottle-nose dolphins,
dance upon the waves.

I love this verse, Rasma. It is so motivating to want dance across Texas. Very creative and a delight to read.
Thank you Phyllis.
Really like listening to song verse reading this Rasma. Bringing in the Texas themes made it a delight from beginning to end. Very well done.
Thank you Jackie.
Well you’ve convinced me Rasma. A great expression of all that Texas is and I’d love to go one day to see this iconic state. Beautifully rendered and warm in expression. great work.
Thank you Tony. Perhaps one day we’ll bump into each other while waltzing across Texas.
Texas is a BIG state, dancing across it would be very tiring;-)) Although I can see your enchantment with it. I wish you all the best, put on your dancing shoes and go a waltzing, but watch out for those two stepping cowboy’s.
You are so right Vincent but boy, if only I really could.
Why make it a fantasy, Rasma? Make it happen just as you did in this wonderful poem. Thank you.
You welcome William. Hopefully I can.
This was a fun free verse. I have danced at Mickey Gilley’s in Houston, Tx. I didn’t ride the Bull but my friend did. I recognized the many songs written about Texas in your verse. Well done!
Thank you Ruby. Lucky you to have visited Texas. My all time favorite is The Yellow Rose of Texas.
