Stolen Day

Stolen Day…winter’s abuse.

In my shuttered dim box,
the deluge outside resonates with a thunderous din,
and light-less day ensues,
my bones chilled under layered, weighted plumes,
as if penance this affront, for my human sins.

Thunder blares abuse
as whips crack a flashing, blinding show,
and all recede into shadows a feared,
till tempest has enough and deems us freed,
or bored it concludes and lets us go.

I sit at desk a tapping,
my keys echo in the dark gloom of stolen day,
and thoughts rush to keep themselves warm,
dream of better days and dawn
the mirror of my mind to play.

Winter’s grasp today is bleak,
no relenting or relief, or so it seems,
and momentary lulls imbibe hope,
yet follows with a downpour of such scope,
even fish wouldn’t dare dream.

The cat has given up,
upon my bed right next to me he’s lost,
amid feline visions and hunt precision,
he twitches in delight,
the chase in full and vivid, colorful flight.

And still the pounding goes on,
metal and wood squawking and creaking,
winds lashing my humble box,
as I pretend I’m elsewhere,
in beauty’s eye and words inspired come forth.

I love a good thunder storm, but your deluge sounds frightful, Tony. Spiritually putting the self in a place of beauty can for sure inspire words to form into a great verse. Your portrayal of the storm makes for a vivid scene and sound. Hope Cat gets some rest.

The cat has a charmed life, the old Beast wants for nothing and is happily snoring behind me as I write. Glad you enjoyed my weather report for the day. Cheers!

Tony, I suppose I will never get used to sharing opposite seasons from you, as we melt and fire season has begun again…I love a good unpredictable storm, as we rarely get them. You do know how to capture weather’s relentless mood. I guess I know where to go~ to escape. I love it in all of its gloom and doom…and your dreaming cat. 🙂

    Best,
    Mel

Thanks Mel, yes Beast my cat just snuggles up and sleeps whatever the weather. It is weird having opposite seasons and reading about warm summer days when you’re freezing to death. lol That’s just how small our world is now; we can have conversations in real time from anywhere in the world. Glad you enjoyed it Mel, take care.

I woke to thunder and torrents of rain the last two nights. But then promptly fell back to sleep. There’s something soothing about storms although they can be equally terrifying at times. Nicely said, Tony. I enjoyed it much.

Thanks Bill, yes I do enjoy a good storm, but when it just goes on its rather gloomy. Glad you enjoyed the piece. Cheers!
