River’s Flow
And still the river flows,
And still the river flows,
its surging life in crystal clear reality,
dragging refuse to its metered low control,
those muddy jetsam breaches
just life on overflow, and clarity resumes
in the calm knowledge of understanding.
How we seek the calm of life,
when sediments fall below us
and sight finds as clear resolve abounds,
the crystal waters that keep us afloat,
invested in life, a nurtured soul
to discover what lays within.
And fear the torrents of rushing life,
tossed in white and foaming tides,
lost to panic when no clear thoughts abide,
to placate the bruising, battered flesh
that aches for lack of sight
and knowing.
Yet we learn the paths of contentious will,
how it returns to bite us still,
and repeat we must until we know
the reasons for our souls relenting stance,
and somehow learn to dance,
beneath a serene and pallid moon.
Then can rivers restore us
and deliver us to calm waters,
where clarity is an infinite reality,
and fear lost to the rapids fallen
in quiet repose with hearts instilled,
the rewards of understanding.

Tony, I love how you have likened the flow of a river to the flow of human life and its trials. Very enjoyable read.
A much used metaphor, but apt I think. Glad you enjoyed it Phyllis.
Loved this Tony. Thank you for taking me on this poetic journey.
