Swing dear pendulum,
see how high you take me,
how far from my sentient center,
where sense is made
from the radicalism of hollow minds
and life in any moment can be snuffed out,
as if life never agreed to be there at all;
and in my highest arc,
can I see the maelstrom below,
know of its purpose,
lost to those who follow,
and those who suffer its malevolence.

My middle ground aches for change,
and height placates not what ensues below,
just eyes seeing the contrast of ideology,
the sadness of pathology
in the acceptance of the whole;
and do I know why all this occurs,
why minds are so fixated on death,
when living offers far more than we are told,
and death offers fare less in promise,
to those who live the lie,
live to kill and want to die,
in this world of blood and sadness.

How does a mind accept extremes
in value above all else,
when beauty transcends their dreams,
their hatred, death and madness schemes,
and offers peace to hearts;
yet they choose violent death,
suffering and the perpetration of hatred’s seeds,
to nurture a future with no promise,
just the propagation of evil,
no religious approval, no sanctions or support,
just the lies and affiliation
to madness and a last resort.

    Powerful ! This hits home for me, Tony. I recently had news from a dear friend that his sister took her own life. I am having a hard time grasping it and my mind is finding it difficult to deal with such extremes. Your verse will help me get past the shock and anger then do what I can to help my friend get through this sorrowful journey fate set him on. I know I will walk with him during this sorrowful time. Thanks for writing this.

    Death is often misunderstood by many. I truly believe that violence always begets violence, whether to die at our own hand or someone else’s. I have never wished death upon another human being, yet so many live to harm others. They plot, stalk, deceive, their victims with no consequence. There will always be the killers in our world, for those who fall by their own hand, it’s very sad. To find nothing more to live for in this world, when everything around one is turned to darkness, light disappearing into the shadows, never to fall upon them again. The lost for a vast array of reasons end it all. I grieve for victims of death. I only want to scourge the earth of those who commit acts of deadly force upon mankind for no other reasons than their own pleasures. Madness, they deserve death. So my friend. Death will always reign, as it is our nature to kill and be killed. Oh how heavenly it would be to live in a world of no violence, but LOVE and Peace forevermore. A well written work here Tony, it certainly moved my senses.

    Glad you enjoyed the work Vincent, and agree, wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world filled with love and compassion, not hate and hurt. Cheers!
