Autumn’s Dark Disdain
Autumn’s Dark Disdain
Tony DeLorger © 2016
Dew point reached in glistening morning slumber,
green blades bent adorning jewels amassed,
and light dim through clouds of patchwork greys,
cannot dull those crystal orbs of purity,
like diamond clusters of radiant mirth,
defying sun its hidden girth,
beyond that autumn scowl.
And as rain troubles day, scattered orbs now lost,
the chandeliers all shattered in the fray,
and clouds tight pull dark together, brooding,
low upon the earth so hidden in decay,
as season tears leaf from limb,
and dormant finds so many
like reaching claws fallen.
So chill pervades the dull green steeps,
rolling grasses held to ransom,
and rain now beats in syncopated beat,
and life recedes to nook and hollow,
barely held to accept and swallow,
respite and drying nest all full
in autumn’s dark intent.
And bird life chatter elsewhere echo,
distant songs like memories follow,
the seasons movement the wheels all turning,
of nature’s lapse a cold discerning,
and rain imbues with thunder hues,
as lightning flashes, clatter, bashes,
all in chill, wide-eyed, cringe below.
As autumn’s dark disdain,
marks the fall of sun’s refrain,
to herald coming winter.

What a visual you have painted of coming autumn leading to winter. I too wrote about autumn and will have to post it here soon. It really is my favorite season when it hits as it is suppose to and is a colorful perfection of summer. Great job.
Glad you appreciated it Jackie, thanks for your kind words and support. Cheers!
Brilliant rhythm and rhyme. You masterfully combined classical structure with the changes of the natures patterns with the seasons. Well written.
