The Flow, My Callused Hands
I face the breach,
and stare with eyes resolute,
in the wake of disaster’s gift,
all that is seen not by circumstance,
yet known by a soul in flux,
and I tremble as a man,
weep as a victim, yet know,
I forge this with my own hands,
and when I awake from my mortal slumber,
I shall be better off.
I see her face still,
her pleading hope and failing flesh,
and helpless can never impart
the suffering of this human heart,
to say goodbye to part of me,
never to resurrect,
simply surgically removed, yet
her sweet countenance haunts me,
her strength and acceptance beyond my scope,
a child, a more accomplished soul than I.
Oh bitter, the truths than pound a soul,
a heart not yet whole,
vying for a peaceful sleep, a vindicated leap
of faith so endured to move on, yet,
imperfection lays deep in flesh,
and gifts are many to the wayfarer,
but accepting them, in pain,
is no easy task for an open heart,
a caring soul torn between hopes and reality,
in this our playing field.
In this turbulent wake,
I feel no better, wiser perhaps,
but pain echoes like a constant wind,
and weary I am of the life I hold,
in acceptance it is mine alone,
but love lost, turned to dust is a task,
a malevolent ache of eternal din,
and having understood its reasoning,
still, ripples forever radiate
in this my pond, my liquid cognizance.

A sad and thought-provoking piece, Tony. Expertly written, however, and a pleasure to read.
Much appreciated John, glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Yes I too felt the pain, not knowing how deeply it cuts, no matter, mourning for a departed one can never be right again. As Phyllis penned in her recent poem, LOVE is everlasting and cherished. Tis a sorrowful piece my friend yet with the style and eloquence of your gift, I am drawn into your verses. I often wonder what eternity holds for us all once we leave this mortal plane. I am confident that all the people we’ve loved here, will be awaiting our crossover. This piece was most definitely moving for me and your style perfectly penned.
Thanks you Vincent, you kind words very much appreciated. I guess pain is our greatest gift for learning, and we know so little, so is it any wonder we share so much pain. Love has always been the answer to human woe. Cheers my friend.
The pains of loss , especially when you , teach us much my new friend . We may wish for a gentler experience but only get what the god’s allow ! Awesome write !
Meant to write “young “,not you ……..:-}
Thanks Ed, glad you related and enjoyed my thoughts. Cheers my friend.
Tony, I just cannot get enough of your beautiful poetry, whether the mood is sorrowful or joyful or hopeful – whatever you pen touches my soul. To let go of a love that was such a spiritual part of one is the hardest thing to do, yet sometimes a leap of faith may be there. Beautiful poem that bares the soul of a man who knew love.
You are too kind Phyllis, and it is gratifying to receive such heartwarming and glowing reviews. Thank you sincerely, and its good to be here; thank you for inviting me. Take care.
